Who are we?

The Children's Society provides specialist support that empowers young people to make positive changes and rediscover their hope. They want a future they can look forward to and we’re here to make sure they get it. Working alongside young people, their families and community, we will not rest until together, step-by-step, we've created a society built for all children.

Why volunteer with us?

Our volunteers are so important in helping us create a society that is built for all children.

By helping raise funds in our charity shops, speaking about our work in the community, or mentoring young people in our services, our volunteers are fighting for this generation of young people and the ones to come.

Whether you're working behind the scenes or shouting about our work on stage, however much time and energy you can give, it's a big help.

The Role

We're looking for volunteers who can help with:

  • Sorting through donations to the shop.
  • Help keep the shop tidy and fully stocked with donations.
  • Help man the till.
  • Assist customers who come into the shop.

This is a great volunteer opportunity if you enjoy working with the public and have good customer service skills, or are looking to improve your skills.

Time Commitment

The shop is open from 9am until 5pm, Mondays to Saturdays. Volunteers are needed throughout the week for various shifts.

Most commonly, volunteers will do either a morning (9am to 1pm) or an afternoon (1pm - 5pm), but this can be flexible.

If you think you'd like to volunteer, come along for a trial shift to see what it involves.

What skills do I need?

You don't need any previous experience to volunteer in our shops.

However, we do look for volunteers who are:

  • Supportive.
  • Polite.
  • Reliable.
  • Punctual.
  • Helpful to customers, other volunteers, and staff.
