Who Are We?

Cats Protection has been helping cats for more than 90 years. It is the largest feline charity in the UK. The Horsham branch of Cats Protection was founded in 2000, and is entirely volunteer run. We cover postcodes RH12,13 and 14. Every penny we raise goes directly to cats in our area.

Our main aims are:

  • To find safe and loving homes for cats and kittens
  • Support and encourage neutering
  • Give advice
  • Reunite lost cats with their owners

The Role

To provide a stable, safe and loving temporary home to cats in our care before they find their forever home. Our volunteers can foster in their own homes or in a purpose built pen in their garden. Volunteers would be meeting the needs of cats and kittens under their care by feeding, grooming, administering medication, cleaning the cats environment and equipment and enriching the cat's experience with play, stroking and exercise.

High standards of animal welfare need be maintained. On average, volunteers spend one and a half hours per day in this role. This may vary depending on how many cats/kittens are in your care.

What skills do I need?

  • Basic knowledge of cats, cat care and understanding their needs.
  • An appreciation of cat welfare and hygiene standards.
  • Patience, commitment and empathy.
  • Willingness to be part of a team.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
