About Us

The Friends of Horsham Museum (FHM) is a voluntary charitable organisation of 150 members. It provides valued support whilst generating funds for the benefit of the Museum and Art Gallery. This is to enhance and maintain the Museum’s many collections which are available for the public to view free of charge in the period setting of Causeway House.

About The Role

FHM is now seeking a volunteer Secretary to replace the current incumbent who will step down after the 2027 AGM. An applicant is being sought now to allow for an ample period of familiarisation with the organisation and the individual role. This post is responsible for the organisation of all key support activities of the charity, on behalf of the Board of Trustees, within the given frameworks of governance and compliance.

The Secretary will: -

  • Provide administrative report to the running of the Committee. Set meeting agendas and arrange meetings for the Committee.
  • Take accurate and accessible meetings for Committee meetings. Ensure the safety and security of records maintained by the Committee.
  • Prepare the appropriate administration for the Annual General Meeting in conjunction with the Chairman and the Treasurer of the Committee.
  • In conjunction with the Chairman, arrange all logistics to support regular external events held by the FHM.
  • Act as the point of administrative contact between the Museum and the FHM.
  • Ensure that all process and documentation is compliant with instructions issued by the Charity Commission and in accordance with the FHM Constitution.
  • Support the Chairman of the Committee, and participate in ad-hoc activities and initiatives as agreed.

Preferably experienced in the administrative field, and an effective communicator and an efficient organiser, the post holder will need to become a member of the FHM to qualify as a Trustee and a Committee member. A commitment to the aims and objectives of the FHM is essential.

Availability Details

The post holder will be required to attend monthly Committee meetings held on a Wednesday afternoon between 2.30 p.m. and 4.00 p.m., and also an evening A.G.M. from 7.30 p.m. to 10.00 p.m. occurring in April. Preparatory and support work for these events can be undertaken on a flexible basis. FHM also presents a series of fundraising events to support the Museum or will participate in events organised by the Museum itself. Executive members are usually representative on such occasions.
