Who Are We?

Southern Sighthound Rescue (SSR) is a volunteer run Registered Charity based in the West Sussex countryside in Barns Green, near Horsham. Founded in 2023, we find forever homes for retired racing Greyhounds as well as Whippets, Lurchers and any other Sighthound breed who need our help. Especially for a Greyhound, that may have spent their life to date in a racing kennel, everything is new to our dogs, so you would be introducing them to new experiences, helping to ready them for their new life in a loving home. Our walkers commit to at least one regular full morning every week where, in small groups, you could be walking our hounds around a bridle path, into Barns Green village or even helping to socialise puppies in the yard. .

The Role:

We are in search of individuals with experience of walking dogs who are available one morning a week on a regular basis from 9am in the Winter and 8am in the Summer, until approximately 12-1pm.

You would be taking greyhounds and/or sighthounds for walks around a bridle path, or into Barns Green village and around the village green accompanied by at least one other volunteer.

We normally have approximately 15 to 18 dogs to walk each morning, some of whom have just come out of racing stables, have been rescued from Pounds or who may be long term fosters.

What skills do I need?

• Confidence in handling dogs.
• Reasonable level of fitness.
