Who Are We? 

We are a small but impactful charity working with young adults with learning disability, Autism and Down Syndrome. We make mostly traybakes in small batches in a custom built commercial kitchen. We also do some corporate catering. 

JubyLee Bakes CIO is dedicated to supporting adults with learning disabilities by providing opportunities to engage in baking and catering to commercial standards. Our mission is to foster social inclusion, skill development, and financial sustainability through our activities. We believe in the transformative power of meaningful work and strive to create an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive.

Our young people work to commercial standards of hygiene, and use very high quality ingredients with delicious results! 


The Role:

The Kitchen and Operations Lead is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of JubyLee Bakes CIO's kitchen, ensuring smooth running of baking sessions, maintaining quality standards, and managing inventory. This role is crucial in creating a safe and productive environment for the bakers with learning disabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and prepare for individual baking sessions, ensuring all necessary ingredients and equipment are available
  • Tailor sessions according to abilities of bakers and requirements of commercial customers
  • Ensure proper cleaning and maintenance of kitchen facilities to uphold hygiene standards
  • Oversee ingredient inventory and purchasing for planned bakes and catering events, optimising costs without compromising quality
  • Enforce hygiene, food safety, and regulatory compliance, staying up to date with relevant regulations
  • Manage bake wrapping, freezing, and batch labelling processes to maintain product freshness and traceability
  • Oversee completion of portfolios and timesheets, ensuring accurate record-keeping
  • Deliver training modules and maintain up-to-date recipes, adapting them as necessary for different skill levels
  • Manage kitchen equipment maintenance and testing, scheduling regular checks and repairs
  • Implement pest control measures to maintain a hygienic environment
  • Oversee/perform bake finishing, packaging, and labelling processes to ensure consistent product quality
  • Coordinate bake pickups and kitchen visitors, managing logistics and maintaining a welcoming atmosphere
  • Write reports for Trustees’ Meetings
  • Meet /liaise with Program and People Lead as well as Business Development and Admin Leads on a very regular basis to ensure seamless running of JubyLee Bakes

Availability required is on an 'as needed' basis. Training and support will be provided until mid 2026 when the role will be fully handed over.

What skills do I need?

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in kitchen management and food production, preferably in a social enterprise setting
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations, with relevant certifications
  • Excellent organisational and multitasking abilities, with attention to detail
  • Experience working with individuals with learning disabilities, demonstrating patience and adaptability
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to create a positive, inclusive work environment
