Who Are We?

We match caring Adult Mentors with children in West Sussex who are under Kinship care (West Sussex Social work team). Mentors spend time with their "little" doing fun things. We ask for a year’s commitment. This is a Relational, Trauma Informed programme, which has been shown to produce better life outcomes for the child in terms of healthy relationships, and increased confidence and wellbeing.

The Role:

Are you a caring adult with a few hours to spare? BBBS is a relatively new charity in the UK (although well established in the USA), and we are looking for caring adult Mentors for children, who, for whatever reason, are unable to live with their birth parents.

As a Mentor, you would spend a few hours a month, over a period of a year or more, with a child that is suitably matched. You will spend time together doing simple things, such as riding a bike or picking up conkers. This type of Mentoring programme has been shown to increase wellbeing, confidence and outcomes for the child. The hours can be to suit you, we just ask for a minimum commitment of 2-3 hours per month.

Welcome Pack available on request, which gives full details of this wonderful programme.

What skills do I need?

You need to have patience and kindness, and a willingness to walk alongside a young person.

We welcome adult Mentors of all ages and from all walks of life, and we provide full training and support throughout your journey together.
