Who Are We?

At Turning Tides we know that anyone’s life can spiral into homelessness. We bring together compassionate individuals and organisations to transform the lives of people in our local community and change perceptions of homelessness.

We provide a warm safe space to listen to anyone who comes to us for help. Local people experiencing homelessness are supported and empowered to become confident and find the strength and belief in themselves to create a brighter future.

Together we can make a difference and end homelessness where you live.

The Role:

To provide support on a one-to-one basis to a resident who lives in our projects. The support needed will most likely be in the form of introducing new residents to the area they are living in, attending initial appointments and meetings such as the GP or Mental Health, supporting to group activities, and hospital appointments.

What will I be doing?

  • To provide support and encouragement to the Client
  • To build a relationship based on trust and companionship
  • To maintain boundaries between yourself and the client
  • To communicate with staff members of the location and times of meetings, and check in and out with identified staff members
  • Participate in monthly supervisions with appointed staff member
  • To respond to feedback about own delivery of the volunteering role

The time will be to suit you and the need of the resident you would be working with and may be ad hoc.  If you want more structured working patterns, we can always find you something to do within the project. A DBS check will be required for this role.

What skills do I need?

  • Participate in initial training and ongoing training
  • To be flexible to the needs and availability of the client and the role
  • Communication
