If only these walls could talk! That’s why our Volunteer Room Guides make such a difference, connecting our visitors to the fascinating stories of our collection and family history.
What's involved?
Providing a warm, friendly welcome to all visitors
Learning about Petworth House and Park, so that you can share all that’s special.
Helping visitors to discover more by telling stories and anecdotes relevant to the property, collection, history and spirit of place.
Helping to protect interiors and collections from damage during open hours
Following security procedures to prevent theft or damage
Being responsible for the evacuation of visitors in an emergency and playing a critical role on rotation as Fire Zone Warden

Use your people skills to welcome and inspire visitors from all over the world
Be part of a varied and enthusiastic team and make new friends
Spend time in fabulous rooms jam-packed with history and one of the finest art collections in the care of the National Trust

This role will suit you if you are...
Enthusiastic and friendly, enjoy meeting people, like operating as part of a team and are keen to learn. Petworth has a wide audience and there is something here for everyone!
Interested in Petworth, art or history (or all three!) – you don’t need to know the history of the universe, but as a Room Guide, you’ll share lots of stories to engage our visitors
