Who Are We?

The Phoenix Stroke Club is a charity based in Horsham, West Sussex that provides support to people who have had a stroke. We provide support to over 50 stroke members every week through our club days and groups.

The Role

We are looking for friendly and reliable volunteer drivers who can spare a few hours a week to help local stroke survivors attend our club sessions.

Our club supports around 70 stroke survivors from Horsham and the surrounding areas. While many members have their own transport or use community transport services, some, particularly those living alone or with disabilities, are unable to travel independently or cannot afford transport costs. To help meet this need, we are planning to purchase a suitable club vehicle for transporting members. As part of this plan, we are hoping to build a flexible team of local volunteer drivers who can help members travel safely to and from the club. Even a small amount of time can make a huge difference, and by having a team of volunteers we can ensure that no one feels under pressure or overcommitted.

The club has been running for 47 years and is a welcoming, supportive place where stroke survivors can:

  • Take part in stimulating activities
  • Meet and socialise with others
  • Enjoy friendship and support
  • Provide valuable respite for carers

Volunteers often tell us they enjoy being part of the club just as much as our members do.

Session Times

  • Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday: 10:00am – 3:20pm
  • Thursday morning: 9:45am – 11:45am
  • Thursday afternoon: 12:00pm – 2:00pm
  • Friday: 10:00am – 12:00pm

Most members arrange their own transport, but a small number from each group require help getting to and from sessions.

You are very welcome to visit the club before making any commitment.

Even a couple of hours a week would be greatly appreciated. Come and join our team!
