Who Are We?
Amberley Museum brings to life the industrial and transport heritage of Sussex, and allows you to explore exhibits dating back to the 19th century.
The Roles:
We are currently recruiting for new volunteers to join us in a range of roles across the Museum including:
- Access Partner - Broom Maker - Bus Operations (Conductor/Driver/Bus collections guide, weekends/main season) - Collections (Curatorial support, cleaning and conservation, project based) - Connected Earth - Cycle Shop - Electricity Hall (Visitor-facing roles, especially weekends) - Electricity Hall (Archive role, electrical experience required) - Facilities (Grounds & Maintenance) - Fire Station (Visitor-facing roles) - Friends (Emporium, Pepper Lane Stop Refreshment Stand, Secretary, and Committee Members) - Greenwood Village (Traditional crafts, visitor-facing roles) - Learning (Family activities in the school holidays and care home outreach) - Machine Shop (Machining experience required) - Paviors - Plumbers (Lead working) - Print Shop - Radio and TV (Visitor-facing roles) - Rail (Train crew for whole open days, engineering and workshop) - Signal Box - Stationary Engines - Trustees - Village Garage (Mechanical experience required) - Welcome Team (Meeting and greeting visitors on arrival) - Wheelwrights - Woodturners
Volunteers can help us at Amberley Museum any day of the week.
We are open to visitors Wednesdays to Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays from 10.00am to 4.30pm until 29 October. (We are also open to visitors Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays through our winter season.) But even when we are closed to visitors, our dedicated team of volunteers maintain the site, as well as the huge variety of historic collections we hold.

Skills will differ depending on what volunteering role you do at the museum.
Anyone 16 years and older can apply to become a volunteer. Due to the supervision legally required to comply with Health & Safety and Safeguarding requirements for people under school leaving age, we are not able to offer routine volunteering roles to younger people, except for formal work experience placements or specifically organised events.
We aim to be as inclusive as possible and support all our volunteers appropriately.
